Planting Seeds

As of right now, I’m in the process of researching and writing a series of articles on marijuana law and drug policy reform  This is to serve as kind of an introductory post and to just sort of lay the groundwork.   I should make it clear that I am biased on the subject, but the facts tend to back up my opinions more than not, so take that for what it’s worth.  I firmly believe that we as a nation need to rethink our drug policies.  Prohibition does not work.  It didn’t work with alcohol, and it isn’t working with pot (I know, I know… Don’t call it pot, it’s unprofessional and damages the movement.  Well, it’s also a lot shorter to type and I’m lazy.  Sorry.).  I’ll keep this short, as it is just a heads up of what’s to come.  I don’t know exactly when the articles will start going up, but if you’re interested, keep an eye on this space.  The first should be up soon, and I’m leaning towards it covering the history of pot prohibition, with the later articles covering where we are now, what we need to do, and what the future may hold.

LOST

I've had time to think about the LOST series finale, and I have to say, it grew on me.  At first, I felt let down.  It just seemed like a cop out, and a lie.  Early on in the shows run, the producers/writers said that it wasn’t purgatory, and then it sort of was, kind of…  What happened, happened as Daniel Faraday might say.  The island was “real”, the events that took place “happened” and people really lived and died over the course of the show.  They just met up in this divine waiting room of a universe once they each died, whenever that may be.  The more I think about, the more it really does seem like a fitting ending and the final shot of Jack’s eye closing was perfect, in my opinion.  I really can’t see it ending any other way, although, the flash-sideways storyline kind of seemed like a waste.  But here’s my problem: What about those who lived in between the final events shown on island and their eventual death (whenever that may be)?  What about Hurley and Ben?  I see so much potential for an awesome story there; I truly hope Damon and Carlton go back on their word.  They said it only ends once, but I hope they were lying. Why not make a sequel of sorts showing Hurley’s time as leader, or Number 1, on the island?  They’ve been saying for a while that with LOST, they had a story to tell, and now they’ve told it.  Why not tell a new story?  If they treat it with the same respect they did LOST, it could be great.  It would also give them a chance to explain all the things fans wanted to know that weren’t touched on.  I personally gave up on getting many of the unanswered questions answered midway through season 6.  It just became clear to me they were going down a path that wouldn’t answer most of the questions I had.  Their story was about love and the people who crashed.  They just happened to be on a very strange island.  And you know what?  I’m okay with that.  But I want more.  Michael Emerson recently said in an interview that the season 6 dvd’s will include about 15 minutes of unaired footage, a sort of epilogue, touching on his and Hurley’s time as number 2 and number 1, respectively.  I just don’t think it’s enough.  I want more.  Maybe it’s selfish, but I think a lot of people will agree with me.  Here’s hoping for a spin-off or sequel that doesn’t suck.

So, here’s the thing…

I used to have a blog back in high school. It was nothing major, just a place for me to vent. I was a frustrated teenager in high school, damn it! I had important things to say, or so I thought. The surprise came when people I didn’t know started reading it. I never thought it would interest anyone outside of my group of like minded friends. For whatever reason, I stopped posting after awhile. I just kind of fell out of it. On a lark, I decided to see if blogger still had the old blog up, and to my surprise they did. While reading through, I felt a strong desire to give it another shot, so, here it is, only now it’s on tumblr… I don’t quite know for sure what my topics will be, but since I’m currently unemployed, I spend a lot of time surfing the net and watching t.v., so I’m sure I’ll come across something that pisses me off enough to rant about. I can’t really use my old nemesis W. anymore… Don’t really hear much from him anymore. Ahh, to be back in those days when a pretzel almost took out the president. Now that I think about it, things haven’t really changed that much. Sure, Obama at face value is the polar opposite of Bush, but when you consider the fact that we are still fighting three unwinnable wars (Iraq, Afghanistan, and the drug war) and you look at his policies, some of which are almost exactly the same as Bush’s, you have to wonder what all the talk about change was… Not to even mention the banks, but that’s a story for another post. To sum it up, I don’t really care if anyone reads this, I may not update often, and my writing ability may not be up to your standards. It doesn’t matter. This is admittedly a purely selfish act. It’s for me to vent frustration, and occasionally talk about things I like. If you happen to like what I say, great. If not, I hope you find someone more interesting to read. And besides, if Sarah Palin can get a book deal, surely I can get a few subscribers on tumblr… Hey, maybe I just found a few new nemesis’ in the course of typing this post.
